Last December, Praveen and I flew down to Singapore for the Standard Chartered Marathon where he participated in the run while I went for moral support. It was the first year that I actually made it down to The Padang to see what the fuss was all about. Previously, I slept in and only woke up after he got home from his race :) Supportive, aren't I?
When I arrived, I found my way to the finish line and was completely overwhelmed by the ambience. People were cheering, the music was loud, the emcee did not stop announcing what he saw, the crowd was just having a great time. I stood alone just taking it all in. Though I didn't get to see him finish, I managed to catch Vicky and Yap complete their 21km run.
So, earlier this year when Praveen told me about the KL Marathon, I was nervous yet asthetic about my first athletic attempt after a very long time.
Many are critical of the KL Marathon. In comparison with the one held in Singapore, there are areas for extensive improvement. Some were even curious as to why the same organisers failed to manage the event in the same way.
I, however, sat with my aching muscles feeling proud of my little achievement, courage and determination to run a 10km race, finishing 1/5 of my category.
